As you bravely stand underneath one of Nancy Rubins' gigantic "Airplane Parts" sculptures, made up of terrifying pieces of torn and tangled metal salvaged from airplanes, you can't escape the death-defying, awe-inspiring wonders of human flight.

Nancy Rubins has become known for fashioning enormous hanging sculptures out of the most unlikely cultural castoffs; besides airplane parts, she has also suspended assemblages of water heaters and mattresses above viewers' heads.

Incredibly, many of Rubins' "Airplane Parts" sculptures are not actually suspended from the ceiling--but rather mounted with a network of cables to the floor. Though the heavy sculptures are safely suspended, there doesn't appear to be anything holding them up!
