Several PaintingsDIRECT artists from the Democratic Republic of Congo have been experiencing first-hand the latest political developments in their country. Kabila's four years in power have been marked by persistent conflict in Africa's third largest country. DR Congo has suffered immensely for decades despite its rich natural resources of diamonds, gold, copper and cobalt.

The works of Kassanda Pontien, Francois Mayemba, Domanueno Lusaki and Manuel Ngombo, depict everyday life in the villages at the heart of Africa. As the political strife ravages the country, the economic ramifications are clearly manifested in the simple scenes of fishing villages, hand-made huts, and local residents sculpting and preparing for their chores.
