Not so long ago, the area now known as Silicon Valley was filled with farms and orchards. In memory of its past, the City of San Jose commissioned local sculptor Tony May to create a work of art commemorating the valley's agricultural origins.

Ironically--but perhaps fittingly--May's outdoor sculpture, "Remembering Agriculture," sits adjacent to a freeway. May used the unusual site to his advantage, incorporating the diagonal property line of an access road into the work. |

"Remembering Agriculture" consists of structures shaped like a water tank, a windmill and a barn. The buildings appear to be sliced off by the road and are covered by foliage, referring to the lush and fertile valley now better known for computer chips. |
