Robert Rauschenberg is well known as one of America’s greatest artists. Since the 1950s, he has consistently created powerful mixed-media works, incorporating painting, silkscreen and collage. Some of these works are recognized as among the most important pieces in twentieth century art.


*Body Mix 5* by Frank Bruno

For a recent work, Rauschenberg made fifty-two individual panels designed to be mixed and matched with each other in a single installation. Every time the work is shipped to a new venue, Rauschenberg invites other prominent cultural figures to rearrange the panels in order to create new compositions.

For last year’s show at the Whitney Museum in New York, Rauschenberg invited musician David Byrne, home-guru Martha Stewart and visual artist Chuck Close, among others, to participate in these collaborative artworks.
