Just a few weeks ago, one of the world's largest art robberies happened when three armed men burst into a private collection housed in Zurich and walked out with close to $200 million worth of paintings by Cezanne, Degas, Monet and Van Gogh.

Four of the impressionist paintings stolen were just recovered in the parking of a psychiatric hospital in Zurich.




As outlined by the Art Loss Register, this fits the normal pattern in big art thefts -- the stolen works are either recovered very quickly by police or remain missing for many years.
