Jeanne Dunning's new photographs and videos feature an unusual prop. Called "the blob," this liquid-filled amorphous sac plays an important role in the artist's new work.

In several images, the blob is symbiotically attached to a young woman, symbolizing our society's discomfort with flesh, and especially our dread of fat. |

In Dunning's video Getting Dressed, a young woman's efforts to dress the blob in a skirt and blouse are continually frustrated as it slips and slithers out of the clothing she tries to button around it. In another video, Extra Skin (Adding), a woman systematically puts on dozens of layers of flesh-colored clothing, adding considerably to her girth and again questioning our culture's repulsion towards ample flesh. |
