Museum on Wheels

Art Train USA has been bringing art to any town in the U.S. with a railroad station for the last 30 years. A museum without any collection of its own, it borrows prestigious works from other collections and exhibits them in climate-controlled railroad cars. So far, Art Train has made more than 600 stops across the states, usually stopping in tiny towns where its arrival is a major cultural event.

A recent exhibition, Artistry in Space, included artworks commissioned by NASA through the years to commemorate the space program. For 38 years, NASA has hired artists to depict aspects of space exploration to get at the emotional impact of what is usually considered a strictly scientific endeavor.
