Animals are definitely harmed in the making of Catherine Chalmers' photographs. Chalmers re-stages the natural actions of predators and prey in the pristine
arena of her studio. Focusing her lens on each step up the food chain, the artist might
start with a tomato being eaten by crickets, and progress to crickets being eaten by frogs.

In another series of photographs, she documents tiny newborn mice, called
"pinkies," being stalked and eaten by natural predators, frogs and snakes.

Each event, both devastating and disgusting, is staged on a crisp white
