New York painter Sally Friedman creates lively and energetic still lifes that truly delight the senses. Often set against backdrops of open windows or on boldly patterned tablecloths, these simple and vibrant compositions take their cue in color, pattern and texture from Matisse, as well as from the tradition of nineteenth century painting.

Friedman describes her artwork in an informal, accessible manner, emphasizing the more immediate and sensual aspects of painting that help make her pictures so easy to love. |

łThe subject of my work stems from nature, the intimate and familiar settings of the home, city and country life. I simply want the viewer to capture the sense of uninhibited joy that emerges from nature—the exuberance of life itself. I try to create on canvas an interaction with color and objects and to reflect a sense of spontaneity, brightness, serenity and harmony.˛ |
