Non-electronic observances included a 24-hour vigil and memorial reading of names at New York’s City Hall. The Empire State Building, St. Patrick's Cathedral and the Woolworth Building were among hundreds of national landmarks that turned off their lights for 15 minutes during the evening, completely altering Manhattan’s famous multi-colored skyline.
