If you found an artwork worthy of valuation in your grand mother's attic, here are some suggestions for finding basic appraisals:
search for information on the internet. It is an excellent source for general information or to point you in the right direction.
contact your local art museum. It is your best bet for finding a real person to evaluate your art. Some museums have appraisal "Days" or "Fairs" when you can bring in your art for appraisal.
visit an auction house or a gallery. Depending on your artwork, they may or may not have the right knowledge. Also be aware that they may charge you a fee for their services. |
Official certificates of appraisal are generally only necessary for authenticating and insuring higher-value works of art. Ask your insurance provider where you can obtain a valid certificate of appraisal, because they would be covering the value of your artwork in the event of loss.
