THIS WEEK'S ARTISTS:
  Andee Dubin
  Karen Langbauer
  Beth Kantor
  Raymond Sammak

Andee Dubin
Philadelphia artist Andee Dubin creates narrative paintings in the folk tradition. Using a palette of warm hues, the artist addresses the intimate relationships we have with our living spaces, from her daughter's bedroom to a mysterious music room. The artist also focuses on daily chores like setting the table and washing. Dubin studied at the Moore College of Art.

Karen Langbauer
Washington artist Karen Langbauer's vivid watercolors evoke states of being, such as waiting for the fall to arrive. By not realistically rendering a love scene, she is able to articulate the emotional state of love by conveying its energy. Langbauer's latest work takes on universal themes, combining Asian design motifs with her exuberant water color style. Her beautifully executed works tackle questions about human emotions and universal commonalities, resulting in visual poetry.

Beth Kantor
When you work in watercolor, you work in the moment. Beth Kantor's medium, watercolor, is as ephemeral as her subject matter: beaches on any given afternoon, freshly fallen snow, a moment outside a bustling café. Her paintings of water scenes have the bleeding quality of wet brushes loaded with color, while her renderings of trees and animals are executed with fine detail. Her most recent work continues her explorations of changing landscapes and fleeting moments such as young children on the beach or a puppy playing in the grass.

Raymond Sammak
Raymond Sammak's works are reminiscent of the turn of the century realist painters. As an artist he seeks uniqueness and pursues the genuine love of the act of painting. He is also inspired by the works of abstract artists and "and those who do it with originality and conviction." Paintings like Fishing in Wales show his ability to find the personal within landscapes abroad: from Scotland to Spain.
