The Timeless Body

"The Timeless Body" presents five figurative painters who question the changing role of women in contemporary life. Probing the histories of painting and popular media, these artists defy our expectations through storytelling. Dramatic expressions of wonder and fear, mythological figures with classical grace, and surrealistic distortions of wholesome females, each transforms the canvas into a doorway to the imaginary.

  Carmen Einfinger:
Carmen Einfinger, describing herself as a "permanent tourist" of mixed ancestry, nationality, and culture, creates vibrantly colored scenes of animals, people, and objects from her travels. Her work references the artist's experiences in Maui, Thailand, and California as well as elements of popular culture to "evoke memories and fantasies within the context of the contemporary visual landscape."

  Lili Maglione
Lili Maglione's realist paintings are studies of objects in changing light. Domestic still-lifes of musical instruments, fruits and vegetables and kitchen ustensils are bathed in natural light, giving the objects an energy of their own. Maglione's poetry, published in her artist statement, describes the personal process of becoming intimate with her subjects and uniting them in the stillness and harmony of her paintings. (Editor's Note: An excellent choice for a bridal registry).

  Dan Scher
Dan Scher portrays the act of seeing in five series of landscape paintings featured on PaintingsDirect.com. He paints directly from life, observing his subjects at different times of day. Combining the changing natural light with his ever-changing moods, Scher creates unique visions of nature using American locations from northern Manhattan to Cape Cod.
