Introducing this week's new PaintingsDIRECT.com artists.
  Martine Mikaelian
Martine Mikaelian's expressionistic paintings on paper question the social significance of form. Her solitary shapes and strong lines are symbolic and ambiguous, leaving the viewer to draw personal conclusions. "Painting channels all my imagination and imagery and integrates them into the social communication routes of art." Mikaelian studied at the Arts Plastiques in Paris and has shown her work all over Europe.

  Carlos de Villaran
Carlos de Villaran, a Spanish painter living in Barcelona, has a history of hand-painting wardrobe for theatrical productions. The artist has mastered the art of communication through color. His palette of brilliant hues complements his subjects from everyday life, ranging from churches to the town mill. De Villaran studied at the University of Barcelona and has exhibited in several galleries in Spain.

  Nantandy
Nantandy's watercolor landscapes attest to the artist's skilled hand and preference for the outdoors. Each scene captures a picturesque vision of locations such as the Catskill Mountains and Washington Square Park. Nantandy began making landscapes of scenes from her native West Texas and later moved to New York City, where she presently lives and works. Her work has been exhibited in Mexico City and New York and is in the permanent collection of the Vavai Museum in Hungary.

  Marine
Marine, a painter from Lyon, France, presents two series of work in her portfolio: Images from Vietnam and a series that focuses on the penguin. Impressionist in style, the young artist's work interprets aspects of the cultures of Southeast Asian societies and the expressive bodies of animals through light and color. "Painting and drawing are a way for me to give a very personal touch to what I see, something that simple photography could not achieve." Marine studied at the Versailles Landscaping School and at the Martenot School.

  Connie Aronson
Furniture designer and painter Connie Aronson uses an unabashed palette of bright colors to communicate her fascination with the form and hue of exotic flowers. "Color is a major ingredient to good living and great-looking art." African daisies, irises, and Queen Anne's Lace are just of few of the artist's favorite flora. Aronson studied at the Art Students League in New York and at the Philadelphia School of Industrial Art and Textile Design.
