Introducing this week's PaintingsDIRECT.com artists.
  Carl Ramsey
The great Southwest inspires the oil on canvas landscapes of California artist Carl Ramsey. Point Lobos, Palm Desert and Malibu Canyon are just a few of his rocky subjects. The artist “sees each of his paintings as a series of interlocking puzzles, and doesn’t have a standard approach to, or formula for, the process of painting.” Ramsey studied at the Chouinard Art Institute and has exhibited his work in California.

  Thelma Lubell
Thelma Lubell celebrates color in her floral still-life paintings. She exaggerates the natural color of her subjects, as in her sunflowers, camellias and calla lilies, all carefully chosen from her temperate environment. A former resident of New York, Lubell graduated from The Cooper Union. She currently lives and works in Florida.

  Tina Rohrer
The viewer is an integral part of Tina Rohrer’s geometric still-life paintings. Her works are comprised of small patches of color that fuse together as the viewer looks on from a distance. She describes the works as a ‘visual experience’ that occur within the eye rather than on the canvas itself. Tina Rohrer studied at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and has a Ph.D. from Harvard University.

  Robert Axelrod
Robert Axelrod’s paintings and etchings are impressions of nature from the Catskill Mountains and the coast of Maine. The artist has created work in these locations for the past twenty years, and continues to be intrigued by their dense forestry, brooks and ponds. Axelrod studied at the High School of Music and Art and at New York University. He has had several solo exhibitions in New York.
