Introducing this week's PaintingsDIRECT.com artists.
  Bernard Havez
French artist Bernard Havez uses dramatically lit architecture to evoke extreme feelings, like passion and desolation. A series of his works revolve around the subject of the Lofoten Islands that are located off the coast of Norway. Another centers around the bridges and walls in Italy. Havez studied at the School of Fine Arts in France and the Ecole Normale Superieure des Artes Industries Textile.

  Lili Maglione
Lili Maglione's realist paintings are studies of objects in changing light. Domestic still lifes of musical instruments, fruits and vegetables and kitchen utensils are bathed in natural light, giving the objects an energy of their own. Maglione's poetry, published in her artist statement, describes the personal process of becoming intimate with her subjects and uniting them in the stillness and harmony of herself.

  Marie-Louise McHugh
Marie-Louise McHugh, a native of Bienne, Switzerland, paints symbolic scenes that incorporate the purity of the nude and its place in nature. McHugh celebrates the connection of all things natural, biologically and spiritually, often using the pear as representative of the organic world. McHugh studied at the University of Berne, Switzerland, and has exhibited her work throughout New York since the 1980s.

  Terry Oakes Bourret
Terry Oakes Bourret's plein-air landscapes pay homage to the pleasures of everyday life. By painting outdoors, the artist captures the true spirit of local country roads and seasonal foliage. "I want the viewer to share the mood I felt during an inspiring experience." Bourret is a member of the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, and has been exhibiting her work throughout the Northeast.
