"As a figurative painter of American imagery, I decided, in the late 1980s, to turn my attention to that most American of subjects, the game of baseball, our national pastime.

Having grown up in the New York/Philadelphia area during the 1940s and 1950s, I was witness to baseball's Golden Age, a fifteen-year period following World War II (1946) to the Age of Expansion (1960).

In 1991, I began a painting project that depicts the top players, great moments, and historic ballparks of that era. The more than 600 paintings also served the dual purpose of a publishing venture, which will culminate in a large-format book entitled The Heart of the Game: Baseball 1946-1960 to be published in spring 2002 by Total Sports Publishing of Kingston, NY."
