" A painting is like a mood. A painter focuses only on the poetic side of life, in sink with nature, silence. A painter is very sensitive to the atmosphere of feelings from the world that surrounds him or her. He or she lives these emotions with passion and tries to recreate them on the canvas, based on his or her own sensitivity and experience. A painter is in search of perfection, facing difficulties in front of the canvas, and challenging his or her work on an-ongoing basis.

What is important is to go beyond the initial subject in order to make it more real. This can be achieved via a search of light, movement, expressive and intimate. What seems static starts to move. The painting becomes alive while keeping its spontaneity. It is like bursts of sincerity. The heart has spoken!"
Evelyne Chevalier, March 1998

"Evelyne Chevalier imposes easily the seduction of her work to the thick and tormented painting, to the often light tonalities and even to the themes, landscapes and interior scenes... This sensual painting finds its roots in the richness of nature and the human world, in the colors full of sun as well as in the perfumes and tastes. The paintings' composition is simple, logical, harmonious, without torturing the space and one can guess that the rigorous framework of the drawing is some sort of loyalty to the subject. The happy colors, frank and serene are not flashy. They are a loyal reflexion of the surrounding univers as well as a certain conception of life in Lyon. In fact it is the light that assure the composition of the painting, whereas a colourful shiver animates the whole surface of the canvas."
    Andre Depraz

"You will remember... the quality of the material and the lights that are getting mixed to give birth for example to a seascape, with beautiful colors, or a bistro scene. It is like a game, in which the eye of the spectator is continuously teased to discover more. The work of Evelyne Chevalier is "full and generous", not flashy, and in peace with itself."
    Bernard Gouttenoire
