"Born in San Antonio Texas and raised on the west shore of Lake Erie, Matthew Forderer’s collages show his enthusiasm for nature and the organic. Compositions are filled with surrealistic imagery and symbolism. Since moving to California in 1986, he has found endless inspiration from the diverse forms of nature found in the coastal region and desert. He cites as his influences many of the surrealists including: Dali, Ernst, and Magritte. Other influences include MC Escher and Pop Artists of the 60’s, especially James Rosenquist.
I consider it a great gift that I have the ability to create surrealistic imagery and worlds never seen. I also consider it my duty to continue to explore this insight and bring as much of it as possible into fruition through my paintings, collage and and future creative outlets. These new worlds have absolutely no boundaries like my imagination. I also owe a great debt to the original surrealists who have pointed the way."
