"I like to paint when I feel good. And paint something that fills me with love. When I'm like this I just make sure I'm having a blast with the subject and that the painting can be an instant drop of this for anyone. I cant get away from representation. Its a golden memory of real things and the energy they possesed for me at that time.

I like to do things that I havent set up. Just the way the table happens to be that morning or that afternoon after harvesting the garden when so much life and byproducts of ourselves are glowing out in front of us. Most the time Erica has been doing something with her plants, she is an herbalist, and the beauty of whats layed out there just kills me.

The light; maybe evening in fall and shes picked some Golden Rod or Queen Annes Lace and she tells me that Queen Annes Lace enhances our mystical side-our ability to tap into our own personal magic- and then the way the autumn light, because thats the time of year its flowering, compounds that and you feel that sultryness of sleep coming on- winters' unimaginable quiet prefaced by a sensual evening visitor - and the magic world opening of that and then something else, a pair of scissors- a hair brush, happens to be on the table and all together its so simple and perfect. I wouldnt want to do anything but paint it just as simple and pretty as it is. "
