"Ever since I started painting professionally nearly forty years ago, I have enjoyed painting in series. Inspiration for these series have come from many elements in my life--my children, the dance, spirituality and meditation, poetry, books, architecture, and nature.

For more than ten years I have remained with the rainforest series--longer than any other series. The inspiration comes from the awareness that rainforests around the world are disappearing at an alarming rate. Inspiration also comes from the conservation efforts of the government of my native Costa Rica, an international leader among tropical nations committed to protecting remaining rainforests.

Rainforests directly impact all our lives. They hold many and yet unknown healing secrets. And, if utilized wisely, they hold vast resources for the economic growth of the peoples who live within and around them. In some small way I hope my paintings can contribute to conservation awareness and bring attention to the positive example of Costa Rica. My images can stand alone as art, but I would like them also to serve as visions of hope, as spokesmen for conservation."
