"Now retired, my previous approach to design had always been that form followed function. However as a fine artist I have come to realize that the human eye sees color before form. Although artistically adept since childhood, my capacity for aesthetics expanded greatly following my post graduate studies in ‘The Advanced Theory of Color’.

This conscious sensitivity for color as a medium unto itself influences my current choice of subjects and technique and undoubtedly decides the outcome of any piece of artwork. I enjoy painting women, the more colorful of the species and Native Americans, the more colorful of the races.

Although costuming reflects the various time periods and life styles, it often remains secondary. Likewise in most cases, the backgrounds in general are void of detail but are no less an integral part of the color scheme and presentation. Color alone can create a degree of visual depth without unreasonable detail. Consequently a new pattern of artistry has evolved.

I attribute my basic inspiration and love of the human form to the old Masters. Most original compositions are quite large ( 3’ x 4’ and 4’ x 4’), and are completely filled with the head or bust of the subject, This degree of impact draws the viewer’s attention to the eyes and the essence of the individual, which becomes the most haunting and memorable effect.

I refer to my surrealistic and bold artwork as ‘Portraits in Color’. The pure essence of color and an uncommon style demand attention and create a lasting impression. Through time, my artwork has truly become spiritual in nature by degree, design, or both. ‘A realistic work of art does not compare with one that depicts the spirit!’ "
