"Mercia, a friend of mine who has spent much of her life doing wonderful work in the Amazon, gave me one piece of advice on raising my son: ‘just teach him to love the earth’ and everything else will take care of itself. I have come to appreciate this as a simple, yet profound truth. A love and reverence for the earth has motivated my photography. Being outdoors shooting is a meditation for me (as a saying goes, ‘be still and the earth shall speak to you’). As with most photographers, I am drawn by the light and what it does to colors and textures. Even more so, however, I am drawn by the emotional content of an image. I want my work to evoke emotions in others. In this regard, although I very much admire the work of leading photographers (Eliot Porter, Art Wolfe, and Shinzo Maeda being my favorites), I find that my own photography is most inspired by music and poetry and the emotions I am feeling at the time. Many thanks for spending the time here, and I hope you enjoy the work."
