Vera Havlik was born in 1908 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. She made Canada her home in 1964 and now lives in St. Clements, Ontario. Vera is a woman who loves to create and capture the beauty of nature on canvas.

Interested in painting and a student of the subject since she was fourteen, Vera Havlik has made painting a great part of her life. Following her extensive training, she completed five years in the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague.

Vera Havlik has presented exhibitions in Hamilton, Galt, Preston, Waterloo, Toronto and Jamaica. During the Multi-Ethnic Centennial at an exhibition at McGill University, Montreal, she was awarded the 1967 special diploma of merit. Her second home is Jamaica. For many years she has spent the winter months on Ocho Rios, where she loves to paint the sea and turbulent waters or the exotic flowers.

Preferring to work with oils and considering herself an impressionist, Vera Havlik has a great appreciation for texture and bright color and uses these to express tremendous creative sensitivity in her work. As a scene or location attracts her attention, Vera goes to work with easel, knife, or brush. All her subjects are captured on canvas or watercolor paper in their original setting. As a result, Vera travels across Canada, the U.S. and internationally to paint landscapes in nature. Closer to home, Vera Havlik's floral paintings are inspired by her own flower garden in St. Clements, Ontario.

"I love to create and capture the beauty of nature on canvas."
