Self taught, Thomas Heath did not begin painting until his fortieth birthday



"Heath began painting in 1989 at the age of forty. Rising early to go to work as a New York City taxi driver, he would see the homeless bent over trash bins looking for food. In the shallow morning light they looked like oblique shapes and forms. Out of the blue, it came to him to draw them."
