" When I was in art school in Texas I would sketch and photograph out in the oil exploration fields for new paintings. I was just hooked on the bigness, the colossity of it- and its importance to mankind. I've gone ton to create many large oil paintings that celebrate the various energy industries. My subjects range from the oilfield rigs and pumps, the refinery piping and towers, to the Tokomak fusion energy research installations ant the Forrestal Center labs in Princeton. I've also created oil paintings and murals for the elevator/escalator industry as well as the NASA space program. Among the owners of my paintings and murals are Exxon, Westinghouse and Schindler Elevator Corp., and NASA. I was especially thrilled this year when Zimmerli Art Museum acquired my panoramic mural, The Refinery, for their permanent NAWA Collection."

Joan Hierholzer, March 2002

" Joan Hierholzer is as captivated by its' [technology's] romance today as the Futurists were in the relative infancy of the machine age.. Furthermore, viewer be warned, Hierholzer's enchantment with technology is quite contagious. "

Lawrence Downes, Gallery and Studio, September/October 2001

" Your artwork is truly innovative and insightful, capturing the essence of the Petroleum industry. Your use of color is particularly interesting. "
