"In college I was taught in thought and deed by the likes of Wayne Theibaud, Robert Anderson, W.T. Wiley and Mike Henderson. I started out in ceramics at Davis and then went to the San Francisco Art Institute where I studied painting with Sam Tchakalian. Their message was: “you’re going to take yourself to another place. . .and hopefully others with you. It’s about self revelation, loving oneself and the world, and the ability to be convincing.”
These are a group of oil on primed paper works begun in 1996. They are medieval in thought and intent, referring to Gorgons, Talisman and Heraldic Symbols. The feelings of darkness, danger and imbalance together with a quirky landscape give rise to an atmosphere of fear and anguish combined with peace and serenity. These are in essence religious pictures, with the ONE in the center of tumultuous world.."
