Firedrake Fine Arts Studio, Thurmont, MD

"As an artist, I am drawn to patterns, both naturally occurring and manmade. These basic, fundamental shapes, often so simple they are overlooked, contain a vast array of messages and emotions. The simple stars and stripes design of the American flag can convey everything from pride to patriotism to disillusionment; as well as something so basic as the feminine star and masculine bar. The tiger's stripe can imply the very masculine danger and unpredictability of the instinctive hunter or the basic order contained within chaos, a strongly feminine symbol.

The point of my art is simply this: to take patterns and objects that please me and put them together in such a way that pleases me. The fundamental power and truth contained within these shapes, colors, and patterns are an entirely individual experience, a communion between painting and viewer, NOT between artist and viewer. I leave no visual clues within a piece or in the title. What you think it is, is exactly and precisely what it is."
