"I consider myself a ‘painterly’ printmaker, who depicts reality through eyes ‘mistied’ by impressionism. My work also reflects my quiet personality. Be they land or a seascapes, my etchings are serene, reflective and simple in design, and are immersed in rich hues of subtle oil inks.

Although I received my Bachelor’s Degree and a Maser’s in the Liberal Arts (Spanish, English, and Education), once I discovered the etching process, I never returned to teaching. I now ‘do’ art full time and market my etchings across the country.

Etching is actually a form of intaglio printing--a process in which a drawing is first done on a zinc plate, which is immersed in an acid bath, where the acid actually cuts, or etches, a line. The variations in tone are achieved by lengthening the periods of immersion in the acid bath.

Once the plate is etched, the colors are obtained by applying oil-based ink directly on the plate in a technique called ‘a la poupee.’ Then, acid-free ragg paper is placed over the plate and hand-pulled through a press. The plate has to be re-inked and wiped for each successive proof. Hence, although an etching is a ‘multiple,’ each proof is considered different in subtle ways (although the basic colors are the same). Therefore, each proof is considered an ‘original.’"
