"My work derives from my love of painting, a love of life, form, and nature, and a love of the silvery light of the Venetians, Veronese and Titian, and of the French masters, Delacroix, Renoir, and Cezanne. I long to paint in the tradition that began with the Greeks, moved to the Italians and the French, and continues to this day in artists such as DeKooning, Gorky, and Guston.
Painting for me is a means of discovering my relationship with the world, of letting my process tell what the relationship means to me. Space, form, and light are the emotive components in my painting. As I grow as an artist and as a person, I gain clarity in how to convey the underlying essences of what really resonates as truth."
Mark LaRiviere, January 2000
