Read our interview with Ms. Leibowitz.

"In the process of developing my creativity, I found myself formulating my own language - a 'non-verbal' means of expression to put across my own personal inner view of existence. I began to discover that this visual 'language' or vocabulary existed in all of nature, both the microscopic and the macroscopic and could be seen repeated in all living things that contain, or did contain, life, energy.

All of my work deals with the pictorial or artistic view of this energy. It is my belief that the same forces that have created the cosmos, or universe, the same forces that exist in nature in all its infinite variety, the same forces that allow a seed to germinate and grow are part and parcel of the human condition."

  • "Instead of looking outside myself for inspiration, instead of using nature or the human form as a model, I have turned inward, not to my intellect, but to my inner being or feelings to provide me with subject matter.

What I experience internally I can visualize as clearly as if I was painting a bowl of fruit, a building, a person or a landscape. I constantly strive to go deeper and deeper, away from the mind towards the essence, in order to bring forth visually the wonder of life's energies - that I share with all humanity. I translate this into color, line and form, in order to make the non-seeable - seeable."
