"Nature is the inspiration for the forms I use. Nature, however, is not merely imitated in the work, but acts as a departure point for a metaphysical experience. My work is organic in the sense that there is an internal energy or life force that allows the piece to evolve within it as well the ability to grow into the continuum that is the body of my work.

My paintings evolve from a dialogue between the drawn form and color. This conversation continues between the spontaneous gesture and the calculated mark, the morphic and the geometric shapes, finally coalescing into a complex internal space. The work is like our universe, expanding and contracting, altering its form, yet remaining true to its original intent. The layering of color, both opaque and transparent, can be likened to the layers of consciousness or the veils of reality. There is a spiritual state in which dualistic elements, such as vertical-horizontal, dark-light, and cosmos-earth can play out their parts. Although these forces are seemingly contradictory, as in the symbol of the yin/yang, they function in a complementary fashion to create a union of opposites that harmonize in perfect equilibrium. I believe in endowing my work with a spiritual quality that transcends stylistic trends, adhering to the truth of my inner process.

I have been equally intrigued by the technical aspect of art and have found making images on the computer very rewarding. Using Adobe Illustrator I am able to draw shapes and overlap the colors with transparencies in a very similar way to my oil paintings. Color is the voice in my work. These works are not studies for my paintings, but works in their own right. I am fascinated by the ability to manipulate shape, color, transparency and placement of the forms with spontaneity and experimentation not possible with other media. My prints are generally limited to a small edition of 25."
