"My work begins as paintings of people and circumstances, most often autobiographical, which are then pushed toward abstraction with the purpose of creating an all-over visual impact, not allowing the eye to settle too long in one place. I start with figurative images and then add layer after layer of decorative patterns and shapes, until the painting takes on a semi-abstracted look, with the initial figurative elements either peeking through the subsequent layers or acting as structures for the placement of these colorful forms. The titles are the final step, most often a spontaneous response to the finished painting."
