"I have been making paintings and drawings for the past 20 years.
The images that I create tell of all that I have experienced on my travels, and are touched by the ancestral influences of my Jamaican heritage.
From "Duppy Gate" to the United States, the UK, France, Spain, Kenya, the North Atlantic Ocean, Tanzania, the Caribbean, the lonian Sea, Malawi, the Costa Rican Rainforest to the Universe through the Dreamscapes and back to my Urban Sanctuary in the gardens of Brooklyn.
Memory touches my canvas in the form of line, color, texture and light.
These images wish to speak to the soul and reach to find the tangible within the tangible.
Animal, plant and human merge at the place of spirit to create creatures unique.
From acrylic and mixed media on canvas to an assortment of drawings prints and works on paper, the influence of nature and the symbolism of archetype resonates throughout my work.
I believe the function of today's artist is to mythologize our varying cultures. My heritage and the modern, media driven society that I was raised in have created in me a certain type of artist.
At the crossroads between the ancient and the modern, I feel that I am from a long line of artists who first carved their existence onto the slides of stone walls.
And like our earliest ancestors, I attempt to paint life's existence onto the walls of my urban cave."
