"I draw the subjects for my paintings from dreams or memories of certain events in my life. Some of those events are so strong that I can still picture the slightest details.

Once, when I was in my early 20s, I was returning from a party in Petion-ville, Haiti at around 1 a.m. My girlfriend and I were parked outside her sister's house waiting for her to come out. Suddenly, I saw a group of 6 young adults, all dressed in white, coming towards us and dancing in the deserted street. At first I thought they were a group of folkloric dancers returning from a show at the hotel nearby. As they drew near I realized that was not at all the case. My girlfriend began to panic.

Unnoticed, in the car with my hand on the ignition key, I observed weird, sublime movements, choreographed without music by dancers circling around a figure with its head covered, apparently the Queen. As they reached my car, I heard a disturbing sound resembling that of thousands of bees. The group kept moving and came to a halt at an intersection, where they circled the queen at an ever-faster pace. That's when we split.

The event made such an impression on me that years later those images have emerged in my paintings."
