"I photograph both in and around New York and while traveling. Images included here are from both travels and local NY subjects. My recent photographic journeys have included India and southwest Texas. In India contrasts abound. In 1997 I spent 4 months in India traveling there and taking pictures, and I traveled to some remote places. One such place is Hampi, the site of the largest Hindu Empire in the 16th century. Now a small village, it is littered with old ruins: temples, palaces, bazaars, etc. As I sat in the shade of one such temple, escaping the heat of the day, I watched as villagers came to this spot on the river and used the temple as a laundry site. The tourists walked by from one temple to the next, and the locals used the temple for their daily lives.

This trip resulted in a show at Gerngross Gallery and in sales to both private and public institutions, the Brooklyn Museum amongst them.

In 1998 I went to the desert in Texas. I took a long road trip where I traveled over 3000 kilometers photographing the expansiveness and the beautiful and strange environment of the desert. The desert seems bland, and vast from afar. As I got closer and explored, I was spellbound by the many parts that make up the desert. The lush pink within the cactus, the deep endless blue of the twilight sky. This trip was visually all about contrasts and details.

Photography allows me to capture details that speak to me and help to define my experience. It also helps draw out contrasts that strike me deeply. I have been working as a photographer for 14 years, and I continue to photograph people and places that are distinct and that evoke something unique, experienced at a precise moment. This makes my style fit somewhere within street and landscape photography, where I both expose the moment and stand back and observe."
