"Eighteen years ago I slipped through the "iron curtain" to escape out of the Soviet Union to the "idealistic" freedom of the Western World as political refugee. My paintings became visual narrative, both remembered and forgotten. The imagination of the future became inextricably linked to the recovery of my past. A story told inside my paintings is always in transition: something is happening in the painting that, once finished will change the course of things: birds are flying away, snow is falling and alarm clock is ringing. The feeling of change and transition is a main message I manipulate with. My paintings are fragile and nostalgic fairy tales constructed on canvases as lines from an unfinished play.

I reveal the universal within the individual using strategy of the mystic, and explore the absurd tragedy of human life and society in a mixture of autobiography, symbolism and philosophy."
