"I approach a new painting with anticipation and excitement. It’s a challenge to capture the effect of light falling on the subject, discover the interlocking rhythms that bring movement and unity to the composition, and explore the fascinating world of color. I enjoy the diversity of painting in pastel, oil and acrylics, which expands my range of expression and allows for artistic growth.

As a painting unfolds, and I hone in on my subject, there is more--and still more--to discover, to explore, and to fire up my imagination. The incredible variety in nature and the complexity of the human condition are endless sources of inspiration.

I very much admire and was influenced by the Masters, among them Rubens, for his luminous flesh tones, Sargent, for his bravado brushwork, Monet, for his sensitive atmospheric renderings, Van Gogh, for his abandonment to raw emotion, Vermeer, for his quality of light and pristine serenity, and Homer, for his powerful and turbulent seascapes.

The stimuli and emotions which lead me to paint each work become part of the essence of it, and are what make each piece unique. I want those feelings to come through from my work and touch the people who see it. I believe the ability for fine art to move the viewer emotionally is what gives fine art its most profound significance."
