"In our modern society we often feel like strangers to the Earth, cut off by our concepts of origin and existence. But I believe that man is as much a part of the land as the stones, the sand and the sea. The human form then becomes for me an extension of the landscape, a metaphor for our spiritual connection to this Earth.
I have discovered that my work is a collaboration between myself and the natural world, a partnership of a kind. I deal with a number of variables, some of which are within my control; others such as the natural elements are often times unpredictable and erratic. Sometimes this partnership gives me an image that can never be achieved again; sometimes it gives me nothing. But it is always nature giving to me. My part is to be there, to be sensitive, and to be prepared for the occasion when it comes. And with patience, those moments do come."
