Born in 1938 in New York, NY, United States

1964, M.F.A., New York University

1960, B.F.A., Cornell University

"As a young child I lived in Manhattan. I can clearly remember my mother sitting on a bench outside Central Park telling me that we were going to move to the country. I was so excited at the thought of having a garden! Well my chilhood garden never materialized. The 'country' turned out to be a busy street in Queens.

But life ultimately brought me to a small town in the Catskill mountains. The year was 1967, and that always-dreamed-of garden became a reality. It has been growing and overgrowing in size and richness ever since. The flowers of my garden and the beauty of the world around me have inspired my floral and landscape paintings.

Working in my garden and walking in the mountains are a kind of meditation. I try to evoke the serenity and joy of this meditation in my work. My work is central to my being. When I am not painting I do not feel complete.

My training in art has been as a realist with a strong background in color and abstract design. While this training both informs my work and stimulates my growth as a painter, the desire to create vivid and touching images is my primary motivation."
