"Natural elements such as fire, water, air, the weight of rock, lie at the foundation of my paintings, translating into metaphors of my own internal, emotional state.

Balance of an image is found to be "resolved" when shapes, formations metamorphose…creating a strong dialogue on the actual canvas: interlocking and interweaving in their own dimension.

The relationship of these forms which contains representations of rocks, gullies and gorges intrigue me. The natural element stimulates an emotional, intuitive response, which is visualized through paint.

Initially I work directly from nature, taking photographs, pencil and watercolour studies. From here, moving to the studio; working on a bigger scale, focusing on memory, emotion, the notion of stasis and metamorphosis.

My memory of the whole process in the landscape moves into an emotional scape. Primal factors are ever present, relying on memory, analyzing situations of significance, moving forward…notions are rendered and perceived in the name of that word, called abstraction, enhancing, forming my own personal language.
