"Printmaking has been a primary medium of expression for many years. It was ten years ago, when I realized that handmade papers had an extraordinary capacity for deep embossing. My style evolved gradually. As more sheets were created, a rich textural surface and exaggerated deckle edges became important. The next step, in the printing process, was to run this paper through an etching press over a master plate to create the embossing. Finally, color was added by hand with the use of an airbrush.
The content of my work has always had a direct tie to my environment. Having traveled extensively, my art depicts scenes from everywhere. At times these are highly abstract, since my original experience will serve as a point of departure for the final image. People who question the source of my inspiration will often be surprised to learn that this inspiration came from a "common" beginning, most often a landscape. The qualities of abstract design, color, and balance are all integrated and play an important role in the final creation.
