"Growing up on a daffodil farm in the Pacific Northwest surrounded by hills of color always seemed to me to be a major reason I became a painter. Color, ideas, and how to express them are basic tenets. In the 70s, I worked with shapes from outer space and shapes from under the microscope. I used systems such as the tetromino, the tiler, fibonacci numbers, repeated folds, repeated stencils, repeated strokes, overlays and underlays of color. I made abstract color portraits of my friends. I worked on color mood diaries, painting a different color every day for a year.

Gradually, I became more intuitive and more personal with my shapes and colors, working on cut-out metal sheets as my support.

Now, I am back working with oil and canvas, assembling canvases and wood to 'shape' my paintings.

Currently, I'm thinking about memory and obsession. What is my relationship to painting and paintings I've seen? What part does scale and detail play in our memory?"
