"Although my travels have taken me around the world - I always seem to be drawn back to my two main inspirations: New York City, with its architecture and blue hues, and the performing arts, especially musicians and dancers and the colorful, sometimes odd world of jazz and the theater. With their offbeat characters and intrigues, I find them to be microcosms of the rest of the world.

In my work, I'm particularly concerned with exploring art as environment, a theatrical experience in which the viewer relates as a spectator and audience participant. Artists who have inspired me are those who are like-minded: Henry Moore, Matisse, Dufy, Chagall, and Calder.

I love drawing from life and then translating the sketches into larger works. The sketches are often made in a dark theater or crowded New York street, leaving me with cryptic 'notes.' Thus, the final paintings are my own reinvented reality. I paint to make order out of the world. I live in a world of colors, and art is a way of sorting out what is around us."
