"My art is related to the historical movements of Surrealism, Pop Art, and traditional modernist painting. I use a raw material provided by our culture in great abundance - the photographic images found in magazines. My methodology relies in part on the laws of chance, and I am assigned the task of editing the accidental events that occur and that are facilitated by my working process.

I see the paintings as both figurative and abstract. The abstract reading requires an intentional disregard for recognizable detail with a focus on pattern, color and depth (imagine looking at them through a camera lens that is out of focus). Though all representational paintings can be seen in this way, my work invites such an interpretation through its simplified compositions, graphic manipulations and use of spontaneous techniques.

My paintings incorporate two or three images at most, generating an immediacy that I find desireable. I strive for works that induce an initial “rush,” and that have a long, complex and satisfying aftertaste. Each painting has at least one naturalistic element - however truncated it may be. This provides a reference for the additional elements that may be naturalistic, graphically manipulated or abstract (in some cases I choose to abstract the photo image when I translate it into paint). My computer manipulations provide a greater spectrum of material and suggest a high-tech, abstract transmutation."
